What a masterful final lap by the ULTRA-talented Greg Moore! Superb how he dove low going into 1 and also he broke the tow from his car to Vasser on the backstretch with quick swerves, along with seemingly superior straight-line speed.
He truly was destined to become one of the all-time greats with his prodigious talents.
Rest in peace, Greg.

This hanford device is what indycar racing need to not have people killed. People should listen to Robin Miller.

Greg Moore you were taken from us too soon. And there will be few who ever have the amount of talent you had at that young of an age. This was real racing, man i miss Michigan open wheel racing!!!!!!

Was this the last year they had two races at Michigan? I know that in 2000 and 2001 they only had one race. I don't remember if there was a 99 U.S. 500 though...

There was only 1 race in Michigan each year after 1996. There was a 1999 US 500. The last year Michigan was run twice before 1996 was 1986 and the second race was 250 miles.

The hansford device was created after Zanardi won the 1997 U.S. 500 by 31 seconds, which meant he was very close to lapping the second-place car, which had Mark Blundell at the wheel. very exciting racing, they should do the same in IRL

The actual reason for the Handford Device was to slow down the cars after Mauricio Gugelmin qualified at 240mph at Fontana in 1997.
