There are many misconceptions about the Churchs position on Divorce. Many will tell you that you cant get a divorce and remain a Catholic. Others find themselves divorced by their spouse, can they in good faith remain in the church?

  • Hello Emmyjo, not trying to be mean or pick a fight but do you also believe that two men who are in love should be able to marry in the Church and if they have adopted children then it is okay for them to live together in a sexual relationship for the sake of the children? Just trying to understand where you are coming from. The Church has held this Truth up for nearly 2000 years (except the mass promotion of the seeking of annulments is relatively new). Should the 2000 year old teaching change?

  • Cannon Law on divorce has made me fear marriage because even if divorce is not my fault, many do not make that distinction and if you are divorce you are condemned to loneliness or living in sin...It doesn't take into account that relationships die, people no longer love each other. The divorce rate is going up amongst over 50s because they realise they don't want to spend retirement with their spouses..and the time of the New Testement people didn't live as long.

  • This is why people don't go to mass, either they are divorced and feel rejected by the church.. If they want to be in a loving relationship then they have to live with that person because they can't remarry and the children of those relationships are also getting lost...They may have benefited from two parents living apart happy, rather than hating each other, they may accept their step parents but the church does not, they don't see a loving God just dogma and judgement.
