Hand feeding baby pigeon

This bird is about 3 weeks old and we have been hand feeding him for about 2 weeks after he was attacked and left for dead. His wounds are almost healed and he appears to be fine. This method of putting a finger on either side of his beak seems to work quite well and he figured it out very quickly.

A baby dove fell from her tree, and this really showed how I can feed her, she showed me the hand trick, I put my thumb and first finger in a circle and she put her head in. I was like, oh like her momma. So now I just need a syringe. I did try with just putting food in my hand, and it kinda works, but looks like it would take forever.

Thank you Obevan! I got the syringe and she's eatin more today than we were able to feed her yesterday. She seems very happy and is trusting both of to feed her, which is good, I have to work and can't be home all the time. yeah!!! thank you again for your help!

Your method looks a lot easier than prying open the mouth, or spitting into it like one video. I wonder why pigeons don't open automatically like other baby birds.
