I have come across the same problem, however, I have been able to get rid of most of it with changing the angle of your air blow off unless the problem is what was stated by lukemce and your tool body clearance isn't enough for your lens geometry.

What exatly was the problem cutting the 17.5 mm diameter lens? Did the the body of the tool touchs the edge during the process?
