Sr. Miguelito Valdés was one amazing performer! Physically, built like a bull, he'd been a prize fighter, mechanic, and ultimately a fine singer and performer. He really was known as "Mr. Babalú!" He introduced this song. Love Desi Arnaz, but this guy put this song on the map. The composer, Margarita Lecuona, cousin to the most famous Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona, also deserves big props for this erotic melody! The "Garden of Eden" scene is performed by Lola and Harold Liebman! They're the best!

  • @HarveySoulFinger Thank you! Please keep your soulfingers crossed that it won't be deleted. A friend of mine who studied dance was astounded, as it was the 1st time they'd seen it. Best regards!

  • At last! A good quality version of this amazing performance. The 'snake dance' is an amazing spectacle to behold. Thanks you for sharing!

  • @shanghaibenny2 It seems to go way beyond this, but this is probably the purest answer: "Babalu is the title of a Cuban song, written by Margarita Lecuona, the cousin of composers Ernestina and Ernesto Lecuona. The song title is either a reference to the Santería deity Babalu Aye or to Babalawo, the title of a Santería priest and diviner." Either way, don't mess with him! I'm more than familiar with the location, and wish I could return this winter. Havana summers are equal to Miami in August!

  • Great choreography, too...sensual and deadly. BTW What does the title mean?
