  • Wrap the wire stems (the insulated part that goes through the valve cover) in a few layers of electrical tape top to bottom. Even the brand new wire sets for these bikes can arc to the head.

Also check where the wire lays over the left cylinder head, I have a bit of split vacuum hose around it to prevent arcing there too.

Probably, though, the carbs need balancing, which can be a nightmare if you don't have a flowbench or don't know how to build one.

  • This can be frustrating I know. I would consider also the plug wire caps. they can get corroded inside . they've got a risistor , a spring , and another little metal rod and it all has to make good contact.

  • This is definently a carb issue. I would have the carbs cleaned up and bench synched, sunk, whatever. Or check your choke and throttle cables to see if they are positioned properly. Could be that the choke cable is too far out or something. Good luck!

  • Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it?

I just got one yesterday and it takes a while to warm up and it wont idle without choke till then, the the idle is still kinda ruff. It had been sitting for over a year with same gas, and float is stuck so it leaks gas, but eazy fix. I have yet to test the battery out to see if stator is good : ( but i hope for the best. Sweet biek though
