@mellamomac I don't think the connection is that evident... yes the byrds probably make turn his head... but it sound different enough ...a 12 strings guitar is not always enough......
You can say that REM made songs influ. by the Byrds as well...hopefully been influenced is rarely copy... it's often uncouscious...it's just healthy&normal
Even the beatles were inspired by the byrds on some songs..."if i needed someone" is a clear exemple...it was just a friendly exchange of influences...

@SurealMedia The byrds are the best... from turn turn turn lp (nov.65) to notorious byrd brother lp (feb. 68)...they made 4albums of musical exploration... between light and dark... definitly in my top 5 bands of all time...
And it's surely one of the favourite Badly Drawn Boy band... I can smell it in his music...
but the man has surely a whole rich family of influences...

@mellamomac it's a similar sound and message.. but a very (i repeat) very" different song. Tried listening to Turn Turn Turn.. It sounds outdated. This song sounds new.. so new that i forgot all about "turn turn turn" until you brought it up.

@mellamomac Agreed that the vibe and chords are similar, but the lyrics don't thematically jibe with the Byrds. This is one of the better tunes BDB has put out in the last 5 or 6 years.

I like the new album but I wish he'd do something as adventurous and diverse as 'Bewilderbeast' again. That and 'Have You Fed The Fish' remain his best work imo.
