  • @TrojanTechie yeah there is a 45 degree rule...

  • balk or not (clearly balk) getting picked at third is still ridiculous

  • oh that was totally a balk. come on now guys. he looked like he was going home and then all of a sudden went to third. if a lefty did it ( with the exception of andy pettite) that wouldve been a clear balk. come on now.

  • its a balk. he made a commitment to home plate and then changed direction. Its no doubt a balk.

  • Do you know the rule? Clearly not! Balk first is foot goes over the rubber (must go home) second the foot then goes beyond the 45 o mark it's a rule. next!

  • Would it be safe to assume the issue was balk or no balk?

Clearly not a balk. There are two things to consider for balks. Distance and Direction. When a pitcher steps towards a base he must have distance between his two feet. Thus clearly defining his step. Secondly direction, he must have his foot point in the correct direction, in this case third base. It seems that this pitcher met this criteria.

Btw...THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 45 DEGREE / FOOT. JUST THE ABOVE TWO CRITERIA. PERIOD!

  • Not a balk. If a lefty did this exact same move, no one say a peep. Because everyone is used to seeing it. When a righty does it, everyone screams balk. Stop the video when he foot lands. It APPEARS the foot lands app half way between home and 3rd. Which is the 45 line, and though not in the rule book, its used as the interpretation. If you call a balk, you have to be 100% sure he came more towards home. In this , in real time, no replay, you cant tell. Good move.

  • The pitcher is *always* trying to deceive the runner; that is not the definition of a balk. It's when you do something against the rules to try to deceive that it's a balk.

  • once your knee crosses your back leg or moves forward its a balk. It looks like he steps forward

  • it doesnt matter which way his leg was going, just as long as his legs doesn't cross the leg that is in contact with the rubber; he can throw to a base that is occupied, but if he would have crossed his legs then t would have been a balk, nothing wrong with that play at all, go read a rulebook!!!
