he's a gamer, he might have watched appleseed just for the robot/guns aspect of it. I don't quite know if he is an anime fan.

There is that big expectation of great action scenes, but then they happen so fast and with the camera shaking so that we can hardly see what's going on.
It's cool, but no so much.

that's partially why the action sequences are great. Blomkamp's guerilla-style of shooting isn't that way just for the sake of it, he does that to include such a realistic setting and he nails it effectively. The guy knows how to shoot an action sequence, that's for damn sure.
