'One of the persons who are representing, I would say West Indies, quote, unquote...' WTF?

@pauliejay "I remember this match as if it were yesterday" Yeah, me too. Australia gave the windies so many chances in the game it was absurd. I would have hated to be an Aussie bowler back then seeing all those catches go down. Especially in the mid eighties, when they couldn't hold onto a catch if their life depended on it.

@Imrankniazi I agree 100% :)
Border probably had the greatest impact though, in that he changed the fortunes of a nation from near easy-beats to at least on par with the windies. Aust came within 2 runs of becoming world champs in 92-93 when Mcdermott was wrongly given out caught behind when it was clearly off his helmet. Border deserved to win that series. Just my opinion :)

@wkmitchell IMHO, Taylor laid the foundation of a super-successful Aussie side. Waugh forged them into a near invincible unit and Ricky pretty much got a great side on a plate. Perhaps, Border is a man I should mention ahead of all three for having taking Australia out of the doldrums and into a new era.

@Imrankniazi Personally, I think that Viv wasn't a great captain...at least not as good as Lloyd was anyway. I think that it is the same thing as Ponting taking over from Waugh. He inherited a Champion team & it was that team that gave Ponting such an incredible record, not his genius. Same as Viv. That's just my personal opinion mind you :) Back then though, Viv was king as a batsman.

@bongo155 It was Mark Taylor who was captain in 1995 actually. Steve Waugh was in the team though. Waugh took over in 1999 I think :)
Cheers.

I remember this match as if it were yesterday - watching in horror as the Aussie batting crumbled. Tough times, but the West Indies were all but unbeatable during the 80s.

@AJFergy Bongo155 is right. Hubert lost two series as a captian. Albeit, he rather than Viv was the architect of a world-beating Caribbean team.
-
@AJFergy Viv Richards never lost a series as captain. Lloyd lost 5-1 to Australia in 1975 where Chappell and Lillee and Thompson destroyed West Indies. He also lost a (controversial) series to New Zealand in New Zealand in 1980. This was the last series the West Indies lost until Steve Waugh won in 1995. Of course Richie Richardson was captain by this time.
