Taken in Okinawa this video shows the traditional folk dance Hatuma Bushi.

Hatoma bushi is a tiny island only four kilometers in circumfrence and is located in the yaeyama group of the Ryukyu archipelagos. The dance is classified as a zo odori and is based on the traditional folk song from Hatoma entitled Hatuma Nakamuri. The dance was choreographed about 1920 by the then popular actor Iraha Inkichi using the music from Yaeyama although performed at a much faster tempo than that of the original. Iraha's choreography incorporates karate gestures and movements from the kappore style of mainland Japanese dance which flourished during the nineteenth century. The text, which is the same as the original Yaeyama version, is intended to portend a fine harvest.
