What I usually do is if I'm in first place by quite a bit, I would U-turn and get any wrenches or bonus points before anyone catches up.

I recall making the computer cars crashing in a map indefinitivly :). Thanks for uploading the ATARI ST version. That's the one I played (the music when choosing your car was awesome ^^)

What was best you could play in 3 persons on once computer (2 joysticks one keyboard or something like that).
