@SkydivinWhales contrary to what you may hear elsewhere, 1 scale works over both chords: A Mixolydian b6, AKA D Melodic Minor.

Never heard this in 11/4 before. Truly amazing! Thank you, now I have started collecting live recordings!

@SkydivinWhales lydian and mixolydian are some of the modes Frank uses but he also does polyscale stuff. Check out the real frank zappa book transcribed by Steve Vai if you're looking to start working this out. One of the first bits of music I learnt was trecherous cretins from this book. It is tough but will really improve your ear and technique. The polyrhythms work when you put them against 4/4 and you'll have fun doing that!

Anyone know what sort of scale work Zappa employs in this song?
