The Vox AC4TV Mini is part of the 'Modern Classic' family in the Vox line. This amp serves its class A purpose with 1 EL84 power tube, and 1 12AX7 preamp tube. This is a no frills amp, crank and saturate! You get a basic volume knob and tone for some treble roll off or warm blending.

With a built in attenuator this amp can get cooked tubes at extra low volume. Three settings, 4 watt, 1/4 watt, and 1/10 a watt give you what you need, even late at night. To be fair the 1/10th watt setting sounds puny and tonally dull.

Vox has opted to put there own Vox Original 6.5" (16 ohm) speaker in, opposed to them dropping a Celestion like other AC4TV models. So long as you have a 8 ohm cabinet you can run the Mini through it, thus giving you more options. This truly gives off the more realistic response of what the amp can do.

For this video I'm using my Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe and have kept the amp stock. I go through a few different pickup settings, and eventually run the amp into a 4x12 Crate (St Louis Music) cab.

The second video will essentially show what this amp sounds like with a Boss Blues Driver (BD-2), and what the tone knob can do to shape the sound, as I left the tone at about the 1 o'clock mark for this demo.

Any recommendations would be great! Also I may do a comparison soon to the my Vox AC15C1.

Lastly, some like to hear sounds right away, being one of the few to have a video up on Youtube with this amp I thought I'd take the time to create awareness of what this little amp does. Thanks for watching!

  • People looking for the second half, I'm still waiting to crank this little amp, believe it or not 4 watts cranked can get pretty loud . If you haven't noticed I uploaded a video featuring IKMultiMedias 'Amplitube', specifically focusing on lower volume tones.

  • Hey thanks for doing this. I've been debating getting this over the 10" just because of the portability bedroom factor but there aren't a lot of demo's out there. Do you think this is pretty much on par with the 10" is the bigger speaker worth it. -Thanks again.

  • @circlecloud1 Honestly the 10" sounds better, noticeably more full, and isn't to much more in terms of weight. If you have a cab think of the 6.5" one as a head, and when in dire need you have a mini speaker to help for practice (that's how I think of it haha). Also if price is a factor, a 10" could possibly be had for less than the Mini if found used. I like the mini but to be honest, I'd of rather bought any of the other models. Not saying it's bad. Sorry if I couldn't help you.

  • @CampfireHedphaz You most certainly did. I pulled the trigger on the 10" I can return it if I'm not happy but I think I'm going to have fun with it. Again thanks for your demo - there's not much out on the mini and I think you analogy of the 6.5 being good in a pinch but needing a cabinet to really give a full sound sums it up well.

  • @circlecloud1 I'm glad, I feel you made a good choice. Great affordable tube amp, can take many pedals, is surprisingly loud, and packs a hidden punch. Unlike the minis lowest attenuated wattage (1/10th), that model drops to 1/4th a watt, if you're not familiar.

  • @psychedelicRoadshow is right! You should not plug an 8ophm speaker on this amp..

  • Dude... this amp is rated for 16 Ohms. You should not be plugging it into an 8 Ohm cab. It might melt this sucker! lol.

Killer tone at 6:45 - thanks for the review!

  • @juanpa1979X If tomorrow the house seems clear I'll gladly get to it. Using the cab bumps up the bass response and overall loudness noticeably. I want to make sure I can let it run full blast, as to not scam viewers of their time =).

  • @CampfireHedphaz Hi Camp! that second demo you're promising seems it will be very complete! I'm very interested in this little amp so I hope and I'll be waiting for Part 2 XD

    thanks for this one indeed!

  • I know this video has a lot of talking, part 2 will be more straight forward: 1:40 Clean/dynamics 2:27 Clean finger pick sound 2:47 1/4th watt setting 3:32 1/10th watt setting + cranked 4:30 1/4th watt cranked 4:45 4 watt fully cranked! 5:34 Cleanest setting 6:45 Running through a 4x12 cab
