@t1t296 There are two versions both of which were written by seperate women who were both Scottish Borderers. About a quarter of a millenium after Flodden though. Said to be based on a lost ballad of which only two lines remained.

Written after the failed invasion of England by the scots if I'm not mistaken??
Written as a lament to those who fell in a poorly considered invasion of another country in 1513, only to be repeated again and again....
