San Simeon, Central California Coast. Since 1990, elephants seals come to this beach to birth their pups and mate. Over 4000 pups have been born here since 1992. The mothers only nurse their pups for 4 weeks, then wean them, go into estres and mate. The adult cows and bulls go back into the ocean once that is done. The weaned pups have to learn how to swim and feed themselves before they swim off alone. Orcas and great whites wait for them off shore. It was a wonderful experience to watch them from the bluff.
