Lisa Busch came up with a novel plan to find work for hundreds of displaced timber mill workers in her town of Sitka, Alaska. Though many workers may have resented environmentalists as part of the reason they had lost their jobs, Lisa created Sitka Trail Works, which retrained them to develop nature trails in the surrounding forests. The result: people in town were gainfully employed again, there was an increase in tourism, and everyone saw something valuable in respecting the environment. This short film by fbi productions, profiling her story, premiered at the Third Annual Volvo for life Awards in New York in April 2005. For more information visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com.
You are a hero to the people of Sitka and to all who come to visit. looking forward to our forthcoming trip to Sitka.
