Dedicated to Ben Keith (Bennett Keith Schaeufele), musician, born 6 March 1937; died 26 July 2010

On July 25th 2010 I had a song came to me about a journey to the afterlife. I wrote a rough draft to capture it. The next day, July 26th, is when I devoted serious time to working on and finishing this song. When done I decided this song should not see the light of day because writing about one's own death was too heavy I thought so I made no music for it.

The next morning, July 27th, my friend Miker2 e-mailed me with news that Ben Keith had passed away the day before. When I found out that Ben had died the very day I was writing this song a shiver came across me.
I dropped everything and recorded this song right after finding out about Ben's death and posted the solo acoustic version that day. The song is not about Ben Keith at all but because he passed away when this was written I decided to make music for it and release it after all.

For this version I enlisted the help of my friend Charlie Betts on slide guitar as a dedication to Ben Keith. Charlie is also very saddened by this loss and he and I have collaborated on several Neil Young covers where he plays Ben Keith's parts. Though the song is not about Ben Keith the fact it was written on the day he died compels me to dedicate it to his memory. So much great and unforgettable music. R.I.P. Ben Keith. You touched many souls with your music.
