A train of the new Siemens 0700 cars arrives at Government Center. Like all MBTA stock, these cars are unique to their line and cannot be interchanged with stock from other lines. The Siemens cars have largely replaced the older Hawker-Siddeley 0600 cars, which are similar to the 01200's, but they are shorter than their Orange Line cousins and have pantographs. The Siemens cars, unlike the MBTA's other recent acquisitions, the Type 8's, have proven to be fairly reliable and transitioned fairly smoothly into revenue service. Because the Blue Line travels along the old Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn railroad right-of way north of Logan Airport, the cars are exposed to corrosive salt air and many of the 0600's are heavily corroded as a result. The 0700's have stainless steel bodies, which should help mitigate this corrosion. Also, as an interesting sidenote to the unique nature of these cars ,the 0700's have small snowplows just in front of the leading truck of each unit, a feature found nowhere else on the MBTA's rapid transit or trolley networks.
ya i personally like these better than the old 0600's
