This is a free violin course for beginners by Violin Stars. There is an instructional PDF file that goes along with this lesson which can be downloaded for free from our website www.violinstars.com

In this lesson Kim will show you how to hold the violin and bow correctly. Kim has been teaching the violin for 5 years and has taught private lessons and classes in local schools. She started the Violin Stars website during the summer of 2008 and has been teaching many students online since then. She has worked with over 100 students through her online teaching and has had excellent results.

Kim enjoys teaching and she loves to chat with others about music, so if you have any questions or would just like to chat, send her an email at zclipse@embarqmail.com

  • hwo much should i spend on a violin if im a beginner

  • @GalacticBlader You should be able to get something decent for around $150 to $200. Stay away from anything that's advertised as 'new' for $100 or less. They are very poorly made and usually nearly unplayable. Check out Shar and Southwest Strings online for a good quality new violin.

  • Thank you so much for your series of videos. I have been considering a string instrument for my daughters, who play the piano, for a while but as known the situation of the economy doesn't allow some of us parents to pursue our wishes for our children. I can't express in words how grateful I am for you taking time out to do this video, at least I can have the girls learn the basics while waiting for a financial miracle. Thanks! thanks! thanks!

  • @lsefia I am glad that the videos were helpful for you! Keep watch as I have been considering adding more videos soon. There are 45 lessons total in the DVD series, so far the first 6 lessons are up on youtube. The DVDs can be found online at Violin Stars.com

  • I'm a beginner and plans to learn violin.

Question: 1. My violin is quite smaller compared with what is used here, should I change it?

    2. Do yo have any advice to minimize the volume of violin, because I live in a flat and I'm sure neighbors are annoyed. I tried putting cotton and tissue on holes but to no effect. If I can't minimize the sound, Is it advisable to start with electronic violin instead? Will it have the same progress compared with using standard/analog type. ?

  • @onzkicg If you are over the age of 12 make sure that you have a full size 4/4 violin. To quiet the violin down buy yourself a metal practice mute - that will make your violin very quiet! I don't recommend always using a mute for practicing though.

  • Hi, I'm excited to start learning this... by the way- does a chrome violin mute really lowers the volume? I live in a small flat.. that's why I need to be quiet:) There's brass and chrome, which is better?

  • which violin on the southwest strings website would you recommend for a beginner?

  • D'awwwhhh, you are SO CUUUTE! <3 and a very good teacher, easy to understand, and quite down-to-earth, it's refreshing :)

  • @Jennasinger If it hurts your shoulder go get one. if it does not, don't worry about it ;)

  • @Antixxx09 well it depends if you have the right size ask a music store employee about it.

  • if it doesnt take a while to do that, why is it lesson 1 and takes up 3:33 seconds of this whole lesson hm?

  • Really good video! hahha! I played the violin a few years ago, but I decided to give it one more try. Last time I used an old violin and bow and this time when I was about to start, there was NO sound.... Now I know why!
