I think we have one our little valley. It is notable for it's kind of slow, languid, low flying. The whistle sound it makes is (like in the earlier portion of video) like the whistle sound when you blow through one of those flexi straws. I saw it chasing after a bird which is unusual compared to the red tailed and red shouldered hawks we usually have here (Santa Barbara). By the way, I can hear what sounds like a scrub jay in the background, do you have those in Oregon?

i'm trying to determine if the hawk i have in my fields is a harrier; he may chatter but what i am hearing from him is a high pitched Kiiii-Kiiii especially when he seems to be chasing off other birds (crows) from his territory. (in Vermont)

Harriers do make other whistled or squeal-like sounds. Identify the hawk visually. If it has the white patch on the top of the rump (just above the tail) then it is a Northern Harrier.

At 2:00 you can hear the male chatter as he scolds the photographer in the nesting area.
