What else can one demand of Cinema when it becomes an art?
A simple blend (the gest of a body fixed and its state of mind punctuated by a song) that creates a new thought, a formal device.

joyous!!

  • I love how patient Gus Van Sant is with his movies. He plays almost an entire song! I love Elliott too so that helps.

  • That's such a good movie.

    And elliott smith is amazing.

    Great combo.

  • What movie is that? and the kid looks like he is wearing an Elliott wristband.

  • @cjhatesu Therefore, I think "Satellite" would have been better for this scene.

  • Elliott Smith is amazing, This movie is amazing, Gus Van Sant is amazing....done.

  • elliott....... why did u go man.. still needed here man.. visit and inspire... please..

  • Thought this movie was a little pretentious. But i love elliott smith, so good for Gus Van Sant.

  • Ok, you got me. I watched this clip and in my perception deemed that it had nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. If perhaps the caption would have said, "To be taken in context with the rest of the movie" then I would have refrained from such a quick judgement. In any case, it's a great song by a great artist. Can't speak on the movie because I have not seen it.

  • @junglestud dude. you're the one overreacting. you flat out said "the scene from the movie has nothing to do with Elliott's lyrics." @cjhatesu was letting you know that in context the song is somewhat fitting. by you saying you've never seen the movie and don't know what's going on, but then claiming the scene has nothing to do with the song is pretty contradicting. there is a bit of a discrepancy for what "the white lady" means. some people say cocaine, others say heroin. for what it's worth.

  • Obvious troll comment...? Because a CLIP was posted (out of context, being only a PART of the whole), and I admitted I hadn't seen the movie, and you jump all over me for stating an opinion of a small CLIP posted here? Apologies for not running out to watch the movie so I could make a more knowledgeable comment that you agree with. BTW, how do you know the song is specifically about cocaine? The "White Lady" actually refers to HEROIN. For what it's worth.

  • @junglestud Obvious troll comment. You have never seen the movie yet you know the scene has nothing to do with a song? You can say that about anything when it's out of context of the whole. Sure the song is about cocaine, and this clips is the kid walking from the school office after being questions about a murder. So yes in a literal sense they aren't related on the surface, but on an emotional level it deals with personal internal struggles which can't easily be resolved.
