  • Yours is one of the best-sounding Amberola 30s I've heard. Thanks for this video.

  • Thank you!

  • Rocky, Sounds wonderful! And that 30 looks beautiful! What a great BA! YF, J.

  • Thank you. The Amberola 30 may have been Edison's "bargain basement" model, but the sound is great nonetheless.

  • I have a .wav of this song, only it's a different version, and it's clearer. However, I haven't been able to find it anywhere else. It goes faster than this version.

  • I love the sound effect of the whistle! Reminds me of the silent film gag of the guy falling on the banana peel:!!!

  • Maybe its use was abandoned because they found a military application for it, I am not a conspiracy theorist, i am just saying what if.

  • Cylinders were abondoned by other companies because they are hard to store, discs later sonded better and had better artists on them. Edison continued to make cylinders until 1929. Edison also made special disc records called diamond discs with the same recording style as cylinders. Edison did not like fox trots, so his records did not appeal to younger people in the 20's and other companies out sold him. A lot cylinder records are made of wax and are very easy to break also.

  • AWESOME

  • good sound

  • Cool song!

  • The main reason it was abandoned was (stacking/storage), discs came with two songs instead of just only one for the same price, and the victor company were promoting kings, way more than edison. Like used car salesmens. Saying there machines and discs were better than the cylinders.

  • Apart from the fact that cylinders aint too neat when it comes to stacking them, the principles for a standardmedia in music reproduction seem more logical and the product less fragile than plates of shellac.Anyone know why it was abandoned so early in history ?This really swings and orchestration is both distinct and transparent and comes out in a more than ok sound quality, given the year of release and the 95 years of age and mileage.Love the blue color-looks almost new.Beautiful Amberola !

  • Nice piece of historical music player! Where did you get it?
