Continuing the Care: Joyce (Kindred Fort Worth)

I'm Joyce. I'm an RN and I work at Kindred Fort Worth. After Katrina had landed we realized that we had patients there that needed to be evacuated for our facility there. They put out a call for volunteers to go from this area to the Kindred in New Orleans and from there they grouped us in groups and put us on air ambulances and sent us to Louisiana. We rode from the airport with the Louisiana State Police to the actual Kindred site. We were at the Kindred site probably 4-5 hours and relieved the staff that was actually in the building when the hurricane hit and took care of those patients until we had buses come in from a different area to help us take those patients to a Kindred in Houston. Then I actually went back when Rita hit Houston and I moved that same group of patients from Houston to one of our Dallas facilities too so I was there for both of those. To get to see them again and to see what their progress was... because those were only a couple of weeks apart, not far. And being able to give to them, their smiles gives back to me.
