Dobie's Bight rd (mis-spelled as Blight in newspaper)
I'm not an expert, I don't know exactly what's in the ponds, I don't know how they are meant to be maintained. What I can say is it looks like a mess, there's salt everywhere, the grass is dead where the liner is broken and where it overflowed into the gully, then into a wetland during the last rain. What's it going to be like when there are thousands of these things, spaced 750m apart, giant lakes of toxic water, all with torn liners and overflowing into the rivers? Someone needs to clean this up and be shamed of themselves.
Update; So two days later they have cleaned this up after me making a complaint, I happened to visit it again while they where there. They just filled it in, covered it all with dirt without removing the water. So I'm not sure how effective that was. Like I said I don't know what was in these ponds, produced water, drilling fluid, rainwater, whatever it was at some point chemicals or toxic water were probably stored in those ponds and even if they pumped it out and what I'm looking at is rainwater, you'd think they'd also remove the contaminated plastic liner when they pumped it out? Instead, now they let it flush out for months and have just buried it. The nearby creek runs into he Richmond River.
Update: The local paper did a story on this and the gas company CEO denies it was a environmental hazard. I don't know, make your own minds up but I think it's needs further investigation, ie: water samples.

Looks like our future's been sold out from under us. Time to take it to the streets people, this is just unacceptable.

The department of environment are a department in name only. They don't do anything to protect the environment- it's a complete greenwash. CSG needs to be stopped urgently- and only the people can do it. Forget government. This will have to the High Court before anything changes.
