This video was taken on my last day during my marine mammal internship at the Indianapolis Zoo (September to December 2010). Here I am working with one of the sub-adult female Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins named Kalei. I had the opportunity to choose several different hand signals for various behaviors and then gain skills on how to use those hand signals as well as a whistle (bridge) to train the dolphins.
A few times, Kalei did not do the correct behavior with a certain hand signal...I then had to LRS her (use a "least-reinforced stimulus)...i would ignore the behavior for several seconds, bridge, reward with fish and then try the hand signal again or a different hand signal. This training session was conducted in the main pool of the dolphin theater; there were about five to ten people present (other marine mammal staff)
It was an amazing experience! :)
