I have often been criticized for my world record speed run of 7th Saga since I failed to complete it without dying. Hopefully this montage helps to shed some light on why that is impossible.

This is a mandatory battle in the game, not an optional side quest. If you have to fight Lux, as I do here, you will die. I attempted this battle for exactly 40 minutes, resetting after every three attempts since he departs from town afterwards. I averaged about 1 minute per battle in the long run (so, 40 battles). Overall, I was one-shotted 20 times, lost 18 battles from lack of sufficient supply of healing items, and won two battles from pure luck. Also note that my MAXIMUM health is 163, so every one of those Laser 3's will end the battle whenever he uses it.

These are all 20 one-shots and both victories. Hopefully you will see how lucky you need to get to win one of these battles. Even though I don't buff my defense, this is actually the correct strategy for the Lux battle. B Agility is more important than B Protect, since the latter won't save you from his Laser 3 spell shown here. To the critics who say I did something wrong, here are a few points:

1. This opponent levels up as you do, but his stat growth is higher. Therefore, the more you level, the less chance you have of winning. In fact, at some point you won't even be able to hit him because his speed stat grew too fast for you to keep up.

2. A level 30 Lux during an apprentice battle has more than 220 MP, which is enough for 11 Laser 3's. You can only hold 9 Potn 3's (full heal items), so even if you don't get one-shotted, you can't stall him out long enough so he only uses physical attacks. This is why the B Protect strategy does not work also. You need to get lucky with dodges and with landing hits.

3. I could have chosen to team up with Lux and avoid this battle altogether. However, Kamil (my character for this playthrough) has a high affinity with Lux. The characters typically chosen for speed runs have very low affinity with Lux and are therefore forced to fight him if he has the Sky Rune.

  • Hate to break it to you but all you have to do is defend off the bat. You dont need Bpower or defense or agi. No matter what he does you shouldnt die on the first hit. I would look into your gear if this is the case. I played kamil and lux was STUPID hard until i realized all i have to do is defend the first attack. Then i one shot him. The only way he could win is if he dodge my attack after defending. Your HP is reallllllly low if you are getting one shot..

  • @dews253

Unfortunately, Kamil is not strong enough to do that here. He is level 30 with FireSW I think. As you can see at the end of the video, a defend-attack and B.Power only did ~230 damage, and was not enough to OHKO Lux. A normal swing with B.Power did 157 damage, so it'd be reasonable to expect ~160 damage at best from a normal defend-attack. There is no chance of that killing Lux in one hit.

While you defend, Lux can still kill you with Laser 3 easily. There's no easy way to win.

  • In the Japanese version, the wizard's rune is called "God's ark"

There are 7 runes for the present that give various buffs and boons, and 7 in the past that weaken gorsia.

Interestingly enough, the wizard rune has a counterpart that exists in the present that you can get using the code 7E4C0099 (puts it in first item slot) --> I tested it briefly but it didnt seem to do anything.

  • @IdeonFukkatsu

Yea I have also heard about hacking the Wizard Rune and testing it, and everybody mentioned the same thing: it doesn't do anything. :P I did not know about that translation, though! God's ark is very interesting. Thanks for the neat piece of info!

  • @TheSuperSNES Then its a gear issue. The only person that Kamil should truely struggle against is Valsu. But lets be honest who doesnt struggle vs him lol.

  • hahaha fodinha lux and with this spell if you wear that protect you earned b

Don't worrying about arguing. I welcome discussions. Haha.

I think Light Rune would prevent OHKOs from Laser 3, but I don't think it'd lower the damage enough that I could go without healing. I'd use Light Rune, he'd probably Laser 3 me, and I'd have to heal. I'd still be stuck in a healing loop, and I'd still need a dodge to actually use a B Agility or B Protect.. I'd either run out of potions or get critted while healing, I think. It's a good thought, though!

  • @TheSuperSNES

Not trying to argue, just being a curious guy.

His punch at 2:58 didn't kill you. Based on the ratio here of Laser 3 to punch, you might have been able to pull it off. Use the Light Rune, if he uses Laser 3 use B Aglty, then heal. Beef up after that and then you may win. Of course, I'm plenty aware that this requires some serious luck...*groans as I get smashed by Valsu*

  • @LionPrinceX8

If I get the Light Rune first, I have to kill him on my first try to put it to use because he steals it from me after he kills. Using it on the first turn would lower the chance of Laser 3 killing me, but it leaves me vulnerable to a physical hit KO. WIthout B Agility or B Protect used, I can do nothing to protect against his ridiculously strong attacks.

  • Okay, just a curious question...Why not get the Light Rune first?

I obviously didn't see your full speed run or anything. Maybe Doros and Bilthem were a bit too hard for you at that point. But using the Light Rune may have made it much more likely you would have survived, as it brings your Magic status up. Which if I remember correctly would also mean you'd take less lethal damage. While obviously you'd still have to get lucky, the Light Rune may make that taks a bit easier.
