Lyrics:
It was just before dawn one miserable morning
In black 'forty four
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while
And the Anzio bridge head
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives
And old King George sent Mother
A note when he heard that father was gone
It was, I recall, in the form of
A scroll, with gold leaf and all
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs hidden away
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp
It was dark all round, there was frost on the ground
When the tigers broke free
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers, company "C" There were all left behind
Most of them dead, the rest of them dying
And that's how the high command
Took my Daddy from me.

  • @alsbigsmoke ... that's kinda what it is about.

  • bonus track that was a song for the wall movie released later as a single that sank/stiffed (collectors item) more like a speech than a song according to the book PINK FLOYD RULES!!!

  • this makes me think of the bravery of men who fought in the 2nd world war

  • peace or extinction

  • @SenorSpode It still would've been off because the song say Anzio in it and King George and all that. Wouldn't fit with the Normandy/Germany/American stuff Plus you can't put a rock band in a miniseries like that they'd had to keep it classy I'm not saying this is bad or anything but you don't put rock in a series where only classical music should be played

  • RIP Eric Waters and every other Allied soldier who died for our right to exist

  • @SenorSpode Brain cells regrow parents don't

  • @cammyjeee That's the smell of your brain neurotransmitters boiling on E.

  • @ZuluCatsTheMispeller I know that Anzio had no connection with Normandy (D-Day) or Belgium (The Battle of the Bulge); I'm simply saying that the music--perhaps sans vocal track--and the movie would've complemented one another well.

  • @SenorSpode Band of Brothers wasn't set in Italy unless your talking about the battle and that would've gone WAY of storyline
