I think the kid jumps in making a loud noise disturbing the guy on the phone, on what must have been a stressful/important/difficult to hear conversation.
He then proceeds to kick the child from a moment of blind rage but holds back on the force still following through with the action.
The parent/guardian/vigilante struck the man with a concussive blow to the cranial area with his fist making sure not to spill his liquid content in the cup. (Most likely hot)
