Australia vs. England, Fifth test at the SCG in 1982/83.

This wicket saw the dismissal of England's David Gower on day three for 70. England fell 77 short of Australia's first innings total of 314, and after a Kim Hughes century helped them add a further 380, the Aussies ensured the only way out for England was to hold on for a draw.

At stumps on the fifth day they still had three wickets in hand, with all batsmen bar the openers showing stern resistance, particularly night watchman Eddie Hemmings who fell just five runs short of an unlikely century.

  • He'll also be remembered for having the highest average against the West Indian pace bowlers of the 70s.

Give credit where it is due, Greg was one of the finest batsmen and slip fielders ever.

  • Bill still sounds the same today....legend!

  • and Lawson! no one seems to rate him, but he was great to watch, spectacular action, very effective, and a terrific bloke. overshadowed by lillee and thommo, but bloody great.

  • Jeez Gower why didnt he hit the bl**dy thing hard. More power less finesse !

  • Cricket was good back then. Always something happening, edge of our seats stuff, backs against the wall. These are the reasons people preferred test cricket back then than now.

  • pardon my ignorance, butwhat moment?

im bad with names and dates etc

  • Should've aint good enough! I was at the MCG when Lance Cairns went nuts with his shoulder-less bat, It was awesome!

  • That was nearly 30 years ago. Dry your eyes and get over it.
