On February 10, 2002, the original Three Mo' Tenors came to Chattanooga to perform at the Tivoli theater. Of all the great songs this one remains my favorite. Sadly, sometime later, the owners of the Three Mo' Tenor name created another group of the same name to take advantage of the franchise. The original Three Mo' Tenors now perform under the name of Cook, Dixon, and Young.

This song is beautiful no matter who sings it, but I'm sorry: Brian Stokes Mitchell is the standard. I was lucky enough to see "Ragtime" during it initial run and with the original cast. I love that show--all of it--but to see Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell on stage TOGETHER was breathtaking. I tear up every time I hear him sing this song.

Love it! another amazing version of this song is the Brian Stokes Mitchell version. absolutely incredible. this may not be my heritage, and some would take offense at my love of the song, but this is about more than just race, this is an anthem for the ages. incredible.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting. I agree; this was the greatest performance to date. Aretha's was great for Mandela tribute, also, but to hear a brother singing it... It becomes and Anthem for a time like these in 2011.
