Location: Joliet, IL
History: Final resting place to many civil war heroes, Mound Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Illinois. Some say the spirits of the soldiers still roam the grounds.

  • Wow. I was going to eventually do that one. However, 100 yards northwest of there is the old Higgenbotham estate. A house that was lived in less than a year.

  • Is this the cemetery by the east side of joliet by the forest D:

  • There is a green pond around the corner of Cherry hill road and Cass. The mansion stood 150 feet behind it. If you walk thru there you will see the driveway lined with lamp posts and lots of debris from the house also pillars. Some of the foundation is still there. You can also see evidence of underground tunnels.

  • Higginbotham was a vice president of Field and Leiters aka Marshall Fields. He had the house built in 1895 he and his family lived there for about a year then moved back to Chicago. The house stood vacant until it was torn down in 1946.
