Its a funny argument, even Lovecraft changes how the spell and pronounce it depending on the story. So really it doesn't matter all that much.

in opne correspondence HPL said that humans cannot pronounce Cthulhu but the closest you can come to pronouncing it is to pronouce each letter seperately like "Cut-who'll-who". but it became more popular to pronounce it "Cuh-thoo-loo". HPL never pronounced it this way. I think August Derlith did.

Cthulhu, and Cthonic are only related as to the Earth. Cthulhu isn't pronounceable in it's true form, though we're supposed to pronounce it "kathulhu"

...i don't know....i don't think the C in Cthulhu is supposed to be pronounced.
I have a recording of T.S. Eliot reading "The Four Quartets"...
He uses the word Cthonic at some point, and he says it like it starts Th. No C is heard.
