  • Aren't the diatoms protected by a hard shell casing? Does the Amoeba disolve these shells?

  • There are hundreds of fine pores in the silica shell. The the diatom contents will be digested and removed. The shell will be dumped. This is not a very good example, there are too many diatoms to see the process clearly. I'll keep my eye out for better ones.
