  • Mr McBee was my bass teacher in 1989-1990. I'll always remember my time in his apartment in NYC. What a kind man. I didn't know anything about playing bass but at the first lesson he told me we could be friends. I'll never forget how great he was. I no longer play, but I listen to him play all the time.

    Mr McBee, if you read this - Thank You. I'm glad Billy Parker introduced us.

  • I had the great fortune of studying with Cecil on a grant from the Nat'l. Endowment for the Arts in 1989. He is a wonderful guy and great teacher as well as being a master at his craft.

  • @kashley66 I used to see him way back at Slug's Saloon in 1965-66. He's a great bass man.

  • i was having a really bad 4th of july. I was in cecil mcbees combo at new school and didn't really pay much attention to anything he really said but i went to my guitar just now and it is a very helpful therapeutic tool. I wish i would have listened to him more.

  • he is my fav upright player. All those albums with pharoah sanders and lonnie liston smith!!! his tone and approach is like no other!
