Jamaican-born Millie Small took "My Boy Lollipop", a song which had been originally recorded by Barbie Gaye in 1956, into the hit stratosphere in June of 1964. Only hits by the Beatles ("Love Me Do") and the Dixie Cups ( "Chapel of Love") kept Millie from reaching #1 with this recording.

Although I was only 4 at the time I remember a trip to the record shop where my father bought me a Beatles EP and my sister an Elvis EP and this single. My mother still has the record at home.
