  • I was going to say a perfect performance, until he made a break between the P & F. Momentum and continuity lost. Gillian Weir, Piet Kee, Marie-Claire Alain and Karl Richter to name a few, play it without a break and it makes all the difference. However, I suppose that in vinyl LPs, people liked to have that little band of clear plastic between pieces to act as a marker for the stylus when repeats were wanted!

  • That was the first Michael Murray CD I got. It was on the original 40 minute album version. I sold it and got the one shown on this video with a couple of works by Caesar Franck. This digital recording was made way back in 1979, a few years before CD's would start to appear in stores. This is one of my favorite versions of the piece next to E. Power Biggs.

  • Fantastic recording of a phenomenal piece! Thank you for sharing.

  • Obra genial, quizás la más excelsa de la creación de Bach. Cuanto más se escucha, mas se ama. Gracias

  • fugue seems almost a bit too "deliberate"......proabaly however, within a tick or two or Bach's tempo.....

  • Great organ playing at the start of the movie "White Nights" finally found him! This music moved me so!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the best combination of performance and recording of BWV 582 - period, especially considering this recording is from 1980....

Some people think Michael Murray's performance style is too bland, but his Bach is perfect IMO.

  • This is exactly the right way to play this work! ...Excellent...

Johan Sebastian Bach - what a genius! ...

    Thak you for this video!

  • Tempo is EXCELLENT! Registration is EXCELLENT! There isn't much more that you can say.....

  • Probably the defining recording of this work.
