In this video I took apart an ASUS Eee PC 1215T NetBook and replaced the 320GB hard drive with an OCZ Vertex II 60GB Solid State Hard Drive SSD. Installation was simple enough, but actually getting to the hard drive in this NetBook was difficult as there is not a cover underneath like there is for the RAM. In the end it was worth it! It is a bit of an understatement to say the performance improved. Most notably the boot time was much, much faster. Even browsing the internet was quicker and of course applications loaded much faster. These NetBooks do not have an optical drive, so getting the operating system installed was accomplished via a USB flash drive. I will be getting up a tutorial on our articles page to show how to set up a USB flash drive to install Windows 7. http://www.blueaurapc.com/articles.php

  • Most computers do not come with the actual Win7 64bit disk. You will have to get a copy and then put it on a USB thumb drive since netbooks don't have optical drives. There are instructions on the site on how to do this in the articles section.

  • Thank you very much for this perfect Tutorial! Worked for my Asus EEE PC 1215b! Very good explanation :)

  • Thanks very much for this tutorial, Think I'm gonna be investing in a SSD harddrive for my netbook! Is it the same for the 1215n?

  • Brilliant video!

  • what are the improvements?

  • Thanks for this video, It worked way better then the photo tear down I researched this project with... took a little more then 15 minutes more then your video to actually do... now to move the old user data over. Thanks again.

  • I am considering getting this model and then putting in a 60gb ocz ssd (I already have one a Vertex in my desktop and seriously love it). My only question is, I prefer to do a clean Win7 64bit install rather than clone it. Do these netbooks come with a full win7 install disk?

  • Very Helpful video! I gave you a thumbs up :)
