President Obama signs landmark service legislation; cites Teach For America application numbers

In announcing the signing of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, President Obama highlights the 35,000 applicants to Teach For America as a primary example of the "generation of activists possessed of that most American of ideas, that people who love their country can change it."

Let me clarify: most teachers get a regular salary- a first year teacher salary but certainly not a $10,000 moving bonus. Its worth considering the population that Teach for America recruits and the salary they could be making outside of education (the population includes Ivy league, top HBCU's, and top ranking students in private and public colleges across the country).

@LaReinaDelBarrio No they do not teach for free they receive the regular teacher salary plus ten thousand dollars to cover moving expenses. It is not community service when you are getting paid.
