Mathcore is a real genre. it adapted from metalcore but plays around with time signatures. PtH is a mathcore influenced band but more progressive.

Protest the Hero, Dillinger Escape Plan, Behold...The Arctopus, Norma Jean, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Botch, and Ion Dissonance are all generally called mathcore bands due to their frequent use of irregular meters..

I'd be forced into saying that it's a genre.

But then again, genre is just something people on youtube comments argue about and doesn't really mean anything in the end, amirite?
