Paper Mache Volcano by Ally

My daughter Allison made a paper mache volcano and has been dying to get the video on You Tube. The vid is based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii, Italy on August 24, 79 AD.

Ally is 9 years old and made the volcano entirely by herself. Dad helped her make the video.

I am doing project on a volcano and I want to know hot to do that and know what I am suppose to use for it to explode .

Start with rolled up newspaper to form the "bulk" of the volcano. Use a small cup for the neck of the volcano (and to store the baking soda). Use strips of newspaper to make it look nice and form the volcano body and surrounding area. Let it dry. Paint. Then add the baking soda to the cup. Pour straight vinegar in the cup and watch it erupt! Make sure you have something to catch the "lava" in or do it outside or you'll have a nice mess to clean up! :)

do you recall what you used for lava?? or was it just the basic bakingsoda/vinegar?

Just the basic arm and hammer baking soda with vinegar.

Hello Alison,

I really liked your video. Your paper mache model is super. The earthquake effect was good and I thought the eruption was cool too.

I'm going to do something similar but the eruption is going to be explosive instead.
