  • Yes. It was the first time I'd ever seen a Kojo

  • Lol. Understanable. Im sure it must have been amazing watching them perform. Did you get a chance to view the kojo ceremony where Ichikawa Danjuro cut his nirami no mie?

  • a book/dvd cab be purchased from Amazon Japan. Select DVD as the department and enter in the search window the following text string 市川團十郎・市川海老蔵 パリ・オペラ座公演 勧進帳・紅葉狩(DVD付) (小学館DVD BOOK―シリーズ歌舞伎) (単行本)

Select translate into English and the rest is easy. The book is in Japanese but the DVD has an English commentary

  • ahhh, errata found, Ebizo played Princess Sarashina (Witch of Togakushi) in Momijigari

  • so it is, so it is... how did I get that wrong, especailly when I went twice to that performance when they alternated roles? probably too late at night and goggle eyed from too much Internet browsing

  • no....Danjuro is the father, Ebizo is the son. They are both members of the Naritaya Guild. That part right. This was performed in Paris to celebrate Ichikawa Ebizo taking his new name. He took the name in 2003 but Danjuro was suffering from the side effects of his cancer treatments. In 2005was feeling better and decidede to go on tour in France so celebrate the shumei of his son. The other play isnt called Sarashina, its called Momijigari. They alternate lead roles in Kanjincho and the other.

  • Ichikawa Danjûrô JÛNIDAIME (XII) (Naritaya) tachiyaku and his father Ichikawa Ebizô XI JÛICHIDAIME (XI) - (Naritaya) tachiyaku alternated the roles of the two protagonists Saito Musashibo Benkei and Togashi Saemon. In the other play Sarashina (Witch of Togakushi) Ichikawa Ebizô played the lead

  • Well, it usually depends in the character they are playing on how they move there feet. If they were say a samurai they would take more bigger formal steps than say a girl. If girl ,say in sagi musume, would take more small and graceful steps.

  • Hi, i was wondering if any of you could help me since u have seen these kabuki preforamnces, because i need to write a paper on kabuki acotr and i need primary resources-- if you have any observations of how they move their feet or know anything that could help, it would be very helpful!!

    thank you

  • I saw two shows and they were both superb. Is Ebizo playing Benkei in this scene?
