#OPD Kettles Occupy Oakland Protesters Into the YMCA! #J28 #MoveInDay

On January 28, Occupy Oakland's move in day, OPD repeatedly used unnecessary force against protesters. Their lack of organization, training, & humanity created chaos throughout the day and into the night.

In this clip you can see that OPD has kettled hundreds of people, leaving us with no where to go. In order to get a better view I climbed the steps leading up to the YMCA. Once there it became clear that the police were moving in on both sides, so a few of us asked the employees inside the YMCA to help us by letting us in. After a couple minutes they opened the doors and invited the hundreds of people out in the street into their building, to escape the violent OPD actions.

I was one of the few to make it all the way through the building and out the back door. Unfortunately up to 400 others were trapped and arrested.

@bornofstardust I believe this happened around 8pm. The YMCA employees opened all of the doors and welcomed us in so we could go out the back door.

My brother did not "make it out"; he was charged with "failure to disperse" and "resisting arrest", both misdemeanors, and then, the coup de grâce, "burglary", a felony. YUP. Everyone inside was charged with burglary. What was taken? Nothing. This system out in Oakland? Messed up. They finally dropped the charges temporarily, to investigate, but my brother did nothing wrong. He marched. He neither broke, damaged, nor stole anything.

I suggest eliminating from our personal lives every product we don' t need, on an incremental basis, thereby

starving the monster.

but the problem with this idea is it makes too much sense.

better to stand in front of the cannon and admit they have you corraled.
