Song For My Father: Horace Silver Tribute by Anna Fisher and Jawge Hughes On July 5, 1992, my dad, Joseph Kadish Fish born in Everett, MA May 18, 1934, passed suddenly of heart failure he was 58. A child prodigy pianist/organist and scientific genius combined with a knowledge of 14 languages, he left a remarkable impression on all whom he encountered. He and my mom met at Charles Street Meeting House on Beacon Hill as students at Tufts University. Freedom Fighters, my parents wanted us to concentrate on nature as divinity and moved to Concord, Massachusetts to be entrenched in the spirits of the Transcendentalists, Emerson, Thoreau, Alcott, Longfellow and Hawthorne. My dad, a city slicker, learned to LOVE camping and hiking outdoors and was a magnet to any keyboard and especially loved sight reading ANYTHING! He was my lifeline the week he passed. Take care of yourselves, eat healthy foods, exercise, refrain from tobacco and alcohol . I am sorry my children never got to really know their grandfather or have his presence in their lives. Hope you enjoy this memorial to a great inspiration, my dad, Joe Fish as he was affectionately known loved people and helped thousands along his way for no compensation more than respect for the most. Neither he his widow nor his immediate and extended family was prepared for his early departure although he loved to argue that the worry was what would kill you not the lifestyle. My musical partner, Jawge Hughes of Jawge & The Unknown Band, had also lost his father. I was anxious to record more Jazz on oboe and English horn and wanted to create my second full length solo album, YIN YANG following the popularity of RENAISSANCE IN FORMATION which debuted in 1996. Having received radio play internationally, the album, YIN YANG has continued to delight audiences since its first spin. Jawge, born on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and me, born in Concord, Massachusetts decided to tribute our very favorite Jazz composer, Horace Silver with this Caribbean Cool treatment of this beloved standard in live Jazz today. Hands down Horace combined his Portuguese and Cape Verdian Roots in the Hard Bob Style. Horace Silver set a standard in Contemporary Jazz and has had a lifetime of special achievements, but I always wanted to see more as did Jawge. Using Dale Hauskin's talents on guitar, we set this beautiful song inspired by a Cape Verde Folk Song Horace's dad would play. Anna and Jawge recorded this track in their studios both at MOLIN MUSIC and ORGEN MUSIC. Mixed by Jawge mainly, and mastered by Jeff at Quality Clones, it has been a popular track on Los Angeles' KTWV 94. 7 The WAVE. As an independent artist, this track could use more exposure. None other is doing what I do with these horns. Thanks to the Almighty, Brother Jawge Hughes, Brother Dale Hauskins, my family, Joseph ' Joe' Kadish Fish especially. Quality Clones, my students, my mentor, JOE HIGGS, Horace Silver, the people of the world, thanks for your love and support. Please call and email your favorite radio stations for my music. HEAL THE WORLD!
Meeting Horace Silver, visiting his home, having breakfast at Norm's in Santa Monica was such an experience. Meeting him out at live shows, particularly Monty Alexander's at Catalina's Bar & Grill was memorable! Eric Wright and Blay Ambollah are responsible for the shots of he and I together. The photo on the cover of YIN YANG was taken at The Thanksgiving Service in the Celebration of the Life of Joe Higgs in Kingston, Jamaica January 2000. Please watch my other videos and by all means put CHILDREN FIRST! Everything will fall into place and you will feel rewarded in a lifetime of beautiful memories and honorable legacy. Jawge Hughes, Dale Hauskins, hope we collaborate again soon! Jawge Hughes, you're the BEST! Blessings to you and yours ALWAYS! Blay Ambollah, thank you for the photos of me and Horace Silver taken in Liemert Park! Thanks to my mom and those who shot these photos. He was a huge part of our lives. He stopped caring about his heart, he was very angry with Americans, always wanted to live in New Zealand. A displaced Russian loved all humans as equal.

Exercise fully, eat fresh healthy foods, manage your fears and NEVER waste a second of your life worrying about money.
You NEVER wanted me to be sad, so I never will!
In your name, Daddy I only wish you could live to be proud of us all!
I hope my friends will slow down and remember.
We are just a heartbeat away from you.
Thank you for the gift!
I am sharing it with all!
