Entrepreneur, Developer and Social Media Connoisseur, James Whelton lives and breathes for technology, business and problem solving. James is experienced in all areas of IT, from computer hacking to iOS development to Social Platform data parsing and analysis.

James has appeared on Engadget, Wired, TechCrunch, the San Fransico Chronicle and more for hacking. He has appeared on RTE, BBC, ITV and other TV channels for his creation of viral content.

James is an enthusiastic speaker. He has spoken at the 5th Dublin Web Summit on hacking and the social media snowball on viral content. He also spoke at Barcamp Cork 2009 on hacking and was head organiser of Barcamp Cork 2010. In addition to this he has been on various panels with regards to technology in education, such as at GTUG in Google Dublin.

James is interested in technology in primary and secondary level education and has setup clubs to aid this, to which he also taught students in his own school web design and programming on a weekly basis. Prompting this he set up Coder Dojo with Bill Liao, a not for profit organisation setting up computer clubs across Ireland with locations such as in the National Software Centre Cork and Google Dublin.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
