Perhaps the solution is a combination of your view Ante Lauc, and ezenob's. To compete with such a well organised network as cash, wouldn't you need comparable organisation? I've spent 5 years gathering ethical businesses and removing the unethical, and to hope the ethical will magically congregate in a group of love and fair play is unfortunately a dream.

Every community needs a network of leaders that perform necessary roles to ensure the community functions effectively. Taking out the obvious ethical arguement, the structure of a Mafia 'family' works by ensuring every member is accountable to and for the benefit of the 'family'. It's not much different to ancient Egyptian or Roman trade before the introduction of cash, where cheating was punished by death. In any alternate currency, discipline is vital to maintain the integrity of the currency.

Maffia network is as well organized than honest people. It's not depend of the level of "honesty", it's depend of the skills in organizing.

Neither B. Latour nor M. Castells do not explain why mafia network is much better self-organized than honest and knowledgeable people.
