well, it's not so much a principle as it is a fact of life. It's a natural law. "Greed is good" in that wanting what's best for yourself is a "what goes around comes around" sort of thing.

It can be expanded a little to include what's best for people you care about, because that's what you want. Also, it's not the gov's place to hand out the money of people (who may not want to be charitable) to those fallen by the wayside; that's another key thing.
