  • This group recorded two: "Ain't That What It's All About" and "Precious Memories". Elmer Cole replaced Gary Timbs on lead and they recorded "Feature Doy Ott".

  • What an incredible task it was...to try and "go on" after Big Chief passed. Ray Burdett did an incredible job...not to fill Chief's shoes (nobody could do that!)...but, to create some "new shoes!"

I've known Ray since I was a kid. My mother led him to Christ. (BassSinger36's Gma!)

    He is an awesome brother!

He is now in Branson, still singing, and promoting!

Thanks "adkinsda" for bringing out this great vintage video and wonderful memories!

    Please bring out MORE! :)

  • A good sound, though with out Chief there is just something missing. You could change tenor and lead and there was still the same sound with Chief and Doy, I don't think those two Doy more so, get the credit they deserve...

  • @bobbyv108 Gosh, that is really something to be proud of.

  • I have just found out that Ray died. I've been up all night, I'm crying, and I don't even know this man. What little research I've done on him though, I think he would have been an interesting guy to learn to know. At first, I didn't like him, because I'm a very big Chief fan, and I didn't think anyone could ever fill his shoes.

  • RIP Ray :(

  • @brassism he just passed away.

  • I saw the Blackwoods and the Statesmen in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1963. I got the autograph from everyone of these men in my Bible. It is a cherished keepsake.

James Blackwood, Cecil Blackwood, Bill Shaw, JD Sumner, & Wally Varner. Hovie Lister, Doy Ott, Rosie Rosell, Jake Hess, and Big Chief Weatherington. Bobby Vogel

  • @CadillacL It was after because the Oaks version was done in 1977. However, it could have been written before this... Either way, one of the two was rewritten with different words - I'd like to know which was the original.

  • @chowman007

Boy could you be any ruder? People need to learn to keep their mouths shut when they don't have anything nice to say.

  • Have you ever heard their last record with chief?

  • I kind of like this

  • boy could you sink any lower? People need to learn to call it quits...
