Z Vex Effects guitar pedals roundup

This is a brief roundup of almost all Z Vex pedals (by Mr. Vex himself) taken from the NAMM exhibition at 2006 by gearwire.com.
Mr. Vex keeps his usual humour and good mood (I love that!) despite the fatigue of the show... My favourite, of course, is the Wah.

Beautiful handcrafted (and handpainted, too!) pedals, but some of them a bit overpriced in my opinion.

To Mr. Vex's immense credit, they are really advanced in terms of electronic design, and not a copy of anything else (a refreshing move in today's world of pedal clones).

Described by some snobbish people as "gimmicks", it is true that some of them are too strange for more than one song, and sometimes unpredictable to get a constant sound from, but sometimes today's music desperately needs to be less predictable... Of course, there are the "normal" ones such as the Box Of Rock, the Super Duper etc. but most of them are completely crazy!

Oh, and by the way, my all time favourite fuzz for my electric guitar would be the Woolly Mammoth - a fuzz initially designed for bass - if it didn't sound so muffled and so uncontrollable. UPDATE: My snobbish attitude towards the Fuzz Factory is... gone! I am now the proud owner of one. Strange really, because I had played with it a lot before, and never really liked it. It doesn't do everything, but has the advantage of instant wall-of-fuzz tone on a clean amp (think Fu Manchu, Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus & Mary Chain etc). And in bedroom volumes, too. Be careful of bright amps, though. It might be tricky to match it to them, since it doesn't have a tone knob (but then again, so did other great fuzzes such as the Fuzz Face...)

All these pedals are becoming obsolete. Nowadays it's sufficient to get something like a line6 ux1 to get the sound into a computer, and a simple software (theres a whole bunch or free ones) can literally emulate EVERY pedal you could ever think of. Then ur working with a computer rather than with a whole bunch of pedals.

@Voiderify You are WRONG, in that case, you also dont need a guitar, you can use any kind of guitar simulator, even guitar pro, but this is not the case. True analog (linear response) never will be like the digital signals at 100%. you can get close, but is not the same (and you dont be cool guitar player) ask Slash, Steve Vai and others.

@kdmxl007 well, that's not true either. Digital is already so good that it's everywhere, from stompboxes to guitar recording software to high tech all-in-one solutions such as the Axe Fx. You obviously haven't read the famous blind hearing tests that famous producers went through that they asked them to tell which is which... and they failed.

@EmA369 These es true, its easy to clone one, but, is not the same to make your own (not cloned) guitar FX, in that case, its like to say, "OMFG Windows 7 is to expensive (around 200-300 dlls) i can get this from thepiratebay", or "I dont will expend 40 dlls in a book, i prefer to download it (steal) from 4share" dont be an ass in this 300 dlls its included the hand work, and the I&R...
