Kahuku High soundly defeated the St. Louis Crusaders on August 27, 2010, 49-27, in what is believe to be the first time the ILH school ever came out to the country to play. St. Louis drew first blood, and the first half was a tug-o-war, but the Red Raiders pulled away decisively in the second half for the interleague preseason win. • Kahuku is Hawaiis top team no doubt about it but dont take anything away from Saint Louis. There were as dominant of a team as any the islands have ever seen. Up to 15th best team in the nation at one point. alot of their players have played not only in the next level of college but the next level on top of that in the NFL like Tyson Alualu, Olin Kreutz, Dominic Raiola. and Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala.

  • @Waimanalo896 brah st luis used overaged players in the prep bowl years thats why the age rule was enforced.

so where are the now? exactly

  • @TheNef77 Well yeah Saint Louis is not a public school so academically and athletically there is an uneven playing field between them and an OIA school. When you can spend more money and recruit you definitely have an advantage but still you have to go through a lot of hard work and go out there and win the game. A champion exploits your weaknesses and uses their strengths to their advantage. As for Iolani I think theyd rather stay in D2 than play Kamehameha, Punahou, and the Crusaders in D1.

  • @Waimanalo896 If you consider one league having better facilities and the ability to recruit statewide, I guess we have an even playing field. Still though, props to the 3 years in row. BTW why doesn't Iolani step up to D1 already?

  • @TheNef77 Yeah I agree that had a factor but you also have to consider the reason behind the recruiting. Cal Lee was definitely on another level than anyone else at the time with that Run and Shoot offense. He made Saint Louis into powerhouse and when they were on a 55 game win streak they were ranked as high as #8 in the nation. We practically owned the Prep Bowl winning 14 of the 26 there were. Even with an even playing field Crusaders are still the champs with the last 3 champs from the ILH

  • @Waimanalo896 In the Prep Bowl days, ILH teams were allowed to use 5th and sometimes even 6th year high school students. I'm pretty sure that had something to do with the dominance. Since then it's been OIA 6 - ILH 6 when the playing field is equal, if you would call being able to recruit and not recruit equal.

  • Saint Louis has won 13 straight Oahu Prep Bowls and 14 overall from 1983 - 1998. They beat Kahuku 5 times including 3 straight from 93'-95'. Kahuku has never won a Prep Bowl going 0-5. In all fairness since the HHSAA was established in 1999 Saint Louis has won 3 titles to Kahuku's 5 and was beaten by Kahuku 4 times. But yeah you cant come close to the 13 straight titles and 55 game win streak Saint Louis had no doubt about that and in the end Crusaders holding the title right now....nuff sed.
